Inaugural Christopher N. Honda Graduate Student Fellowship Recipients

It is my great pleasure to announce the inaugural recipients of the Dr. Christopher N. Honda Graduate Student Fellowship which is administered by  the graduate program in neuroscience.

The recipients are pharmaceutics graduate program students, Benjamin Clements and Tongzhen Xie and third-year graduate program in neuroscience student Anne Huntemer-Silveira. These fellowships are given to support and advance the careers of graduate students with interests in somatosensation, pain, and analgesia

Professor Honda was known internationally for advances in defining the neuronal mechanisms contributing to the sensory experience of pain. In addition to pursuing his research, Chris taught hundreds of future scientists, clinicians and citizens in both the classroom and laboratory. His kindness, collegiality, and mentorship deeply impacted generations of students who carry his lessons into their teaching and mentoring.

Particularly special during the award ceremony was the presence of Dr. Honda's wife Gloria, daughter Kimberlee, son-in-law Alain, and his grandsons (visiting from California). The awards were conferred by his dear friends Professor Liz Janssen of Macalester College and Professor Harry Orr of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and the Institute of Translational Neuroscience, members of the committee that oversees the fellowship fund.

Please join us in congratulating Ben, Tongzhen and Anne!
