Dr. Steven P. Cohen, MD,  is a Professor of Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine, at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He obtained his medical degree at Mount Sinai, completed an anesthesiology residency at Columbia University, and a pain fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.  He has published over 350 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the past 20 years. Among his major contributions are the development of an FDA-approved SI joint radiofrequency ablation. His research has also been featured in the New York Times 4 times and he has been the first author on the “Pain” chapter in the last 3 editions of “Cecil Textbook of Medicine”. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Pain Medicine and the Executive Board for ASRA and is the Principal Investigator on about $20 million in federal grants. Dr. Cohen is also a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army, and was deployed 4 times in support of operations in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He received numerous awards including John J. Bonica Award and American Academy of Pain Medicine Founder’s Award. 



Dr. Alonso Guedes, DVM, MS, PhD, Diplomate ACVAA,  is an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Minnesota.  He graduated from the University of Santa Maria in Brazil and did a combined residency/PhD in anesthesia at the University of Minnesota.  He was an assistant professor of anesthesia at Texas A&M University for 4 years before moving to UC Davis in 2010, and subsequently to the University of Minnesota. His research focus is on pain biology and analgesic pharmacology and he was one of the founding members of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.
