Christopher N. Honda Graduate Student Fellowship in Pain Research

November 6, 2020

Dear Friends,

We would like to announce the establishment of the “Christopher N. Honda Fellowship in Pain Research” through the University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) fund. Our intent in establishing this fellowship is to ensure that Chris's legacy of nurturing generations of neuroscientists will be continued.

Chris taught hundreds of future scientists, clinicians and citizens in both the classroom and laboratory. Chris was a beacon of gentleness and wisdom, a cherished colleague and collaborator with the highest standards for his research. Above all, Chris’s kindness, collegiality, and mentorship deeply impacted generations of students who carry his lessons into their teaching and mentoring. It is our hope, as we unite in our efforts to create and steward the Christopher N. Honda Fellowship in Pain Research, that we will continue to share the lessons we learned from our dear friend, colleague and mentor with the next generations of early career scholars.

We discussed this initiative with Chris and his family, and they were supportive and grateful. Chris expressed his wish that the fund be specifically dedicated to graduate student training in pain research.

The “Christopher N. Honda Fellowship in Pain Research” will recognize and support future graduate students with exceptional potential in pain research by providing awards and scholarship funds to UMN graduate students conducting outstanding research in pain. We invite you to contribute to the initial donations that will seed the Christopher N. Honda Fellowship in Pain Research. Our first financial goal is to grow the fund to the $25,000
threshold which will enable the UMF to convert it into an endowment fund. No awards or scholarships will be distributed until that threshold is met.
